Makita’s new XDT21 impact driver puts 1,860 in.lbs. of maximum torque and four speed settings into an 18V LXT body that is 4-3/4” long. The XDT21T kit is listed by US retailer Toolnut at $399.00 USD, while Makita has not published a price and its USA pages carry no Canadian information.
What does the XDT21 offer over a standard impact driver?
Makita announced the driver on August 4, 2026, and describes it as an 18V LXT Quick-Shift Mode 4-Speed Impact Driver with a brushless motor. The headline spec is 1,860 in.lbs. of torque with a top speed of 3,700 RPM.
The four settings run from 0-1,100 up to 0-3,700 RPM, and impacts per minute climb from 0-2,000 to 0-4,400 IPM. Makita also lists a Tightening Mode (T-Mode), a one-touch 1/4” hex chuck, a rubberized grip and LED lights with preglow and afterglow.
Makita lists four no-load speed settings, numbered one to four, topping out at 3,700 RPM.

How much does it weigh, and why do the sources differ?
Makita’s own pages disagree with each other. The spec table lists 2.9 lbs net with the battery sold separately, while the feature list gives 3.6 lbs with a battery. Toolnut repeats the 3.6 lbs figure “per Makita”. Treat the lower number as a bare tool weight and the higher one as the working weight with a pack fitted until Makita clarifies.
What is in the XDT21T kit and what does it cost?
The XDT21T kit includes the XDT21Z driver, two BL1850B 18V LXT 5.0Ah batteries, a DC18RC Rapid Optimum charger and a tool case. Toolnut lists it at $399.00 USD with free shipping, shows it out of stock, and says it usually ships in 12-18 days. Toolnut also notes XPT dust and water resistance.
Makita Canada pricing and Canadian retailer listings were not found on the pages we read, so no CAD price or in-stock date can be given. Makita’s USA page only offers a local dealer link.
Who it suits
- Professional tradesperson on LXT: the four-step speed range and T-Mode suit work that moves between fasteners and delicate materials. Check the weight difference above if you work overhead.
- Serious DIYer: the driver covers decking screws to small machine screws without swapping tools, but the kit price is a large step for occasional use. The tool-only XDT21Z may be enough if you already own batteries.
- Someone already on 18V LXT: existing BL1850B-style packs work, so the bare tool is the sensible start. Confirm battery compatibility on Makita’s page before buying.
- First-time buyer: the kit includes everything needed, though the price is high for a first driver.
What should you do next?
Check the XDT21T page on makitatools.com for dealer links, and look at Makita Canada’s listings before ordering from a US store, since shipping, duties and warranty terms for a US purchase were not covered in the sources. Compare the kit with the XDT21Z tool only if you already own batteries and a charger.
