DEWALT lists the DCE154B on its Canadian and US sites: a brushless 20V MAX XR cutter for copper tubing from 1/4 in. to 1-1/4 in., rated by the maker at up to 550 cuts per charge. It is a bare tool with no battery or charger, and a kit called the DCE154E1 adds a charger, two cutting accessories and a carrying case.

What can the DCE154B cut?

It cuts 1/4 in. to 1-1/4 in. copper tubing or pipe, including types K, L and M, in hard or soft copper, without swapping parts. An auto-size adjust cutting head sets itself to the tube, and 3/8 in. outside diameter HVACR tubing is covered. The head pivots through 90° so it can reach different cutting angles.

How fast is it, and how long does a battery last?

DEWALT quotes cuts in as little as 1.2 seconds and up to 550 cuts per charge. Both figures come from DEWALT’s own footnotes: a DCBP034 battery, type L, 1/2 in. copper pipe, cutting time only. Other batteries and pipe sizes will give different numbers.

On its US page DEWALT compares the cutter with the Milwaukee 2471 M12 and claims up to 2X faster cuts, 46% less cut clearance and 40% more tubing sizes. The clearance claim applies to the bare tool in the right angle position only. These are the maker’s own comparisons, and we found no independent test results yet.

What else is on the tool?

  • A variable speed trigger and an integrated LED with on/off control
  • Corrosion resistant cutting mechanism components
  • TOOL CONNECT Chip Ready, which works with a DEWALT tag (sold separately) and the DEWALT SITE MANAGER app for tracking; the Canadian page notes that subscription and third party data charges may apply
  • A 3 year limited warranty, 1 year of free service and a 90 day satisfaction guarantee

Weight and dimensions are not listed on either DEWALT page.

How much does it cost in Canada?

Neither DEWALT page shows a price, and no release date has been given. A Lowe’s new tools roundup from 731 Woodworks lists the DCE154B among recent arrivals but also gives no price. The tool is a 20V MAX product, so the battery you already own matters: DEWALT’s runtime figure uses a DCBP034, so plan around that pack when you compare kit and bare tool prices.

Who it suits

  • Licensed plumber or HVAC technician: the 1/4 in. to 1-1/4 in. range and the quoted 1.2 second cut are the draw. Check the cut clearance in your tightest installs, because DEWALT’s clearance claim covers the bare tool only.
  • Crew or fleet buyer: the Chip Ready tracking helps with asset control, but the tag is extra and subscription charges may apply.
  • Already on DEWALT 20V MAX: the bare tool is the logical start if you own batteries and a charger. Confirm which pack you will use before relying on the 550 cut figure.
  • Serious DIYer doing a renovation: with no price published, wait for a listing before deciding whether a dedicated cutter pays off for occasional copper runs.
  • First time buyer without batteries: look at the DCE154E1 kit, which includes the charger and a case.

Check the DEWALT Canada product page for Canadian retailers and prices as they appear, and read the instruction manual linked there before you buy.
