Makita’s GPH03 is a 40V max XGT hammer driver-drill with three mechanical speeds and a rated maximum torque of 1,590 in.lbs. (180 N•m). The kit with a 4.0Ah battery is model GPH03SU1. Makita U.S.A. announced it on February 3, 2026, and the announcement gave no price, no ship date and no Canadian availability.
What is new on the Makita GPH03?
Makita says the headline change is the middle gear. The drill has three speeds, 0-650, 0-1,800 and 0-2,600 RPM, and Makita claims twice the working speed in medium compared with its earlier 2-speed models, without overloading the battery. In hammer mode the impact rates are 0-9,750, 0-27,000 and 0-36,000 IPM.
One detail to watch: the press release gives the top speed as 2,600 RPM, while the spec table on Makita’s GPH03SU1 product page says 2,400 RPM. Check the figure on the exact listing before you compare it with another drill. These are Makita’s own figures, not test results.

What comes in the box and what does it cost?
The GPH03Z is the bare tool. The GPH03SU1 kit adds one BL4040F 4.0Ah battery, a DC40RC Fast Charger, the side handle and a tool bag. Makita’s pages show no price.
Power Tools Insider reported on February 24, 2026 (updated March 6) a combo kit, GT202SU1D1, at $499 in the United States. It pairs the GPH03Z with a GDT04Z impact driver, a 4.0Ah and a 2.5Ah battery, a charger and a bag. That report names no retailer. None of our sources give a Canadian price, so check makita.ca and Canadian retailers before you plan a purchase.

Who it suits
A professional tradesperson already on 40V max XGT gets a drill that covers masonry and steel up to 13/16” and a middle speed built for faster work. Check the bare tool price against your existing batteries so you do not pay for a second charger.
A serious DIYer coming to XGT for the first time should look at the GPH03SU1, because it includes a battery and charger. Confirm the price in Canadian dollars before ordering, since only a US price has been reported.
A crew or fleet buyer can weigh the combo kit against bare tools plus shared batteries. The sources do not say how the GPH03 compares with other drills in runtime, so wait for named test results before standardizing on it.
What should you do next?
Read the full specifications on the Makita GPH03SU1 page, then compare the kit price with the bare tool at the retailer you normally use.
