Ryobi’s 40V HP Brushless 26” Hedge Trimmer is listed on ryobitools.com at $189.00 as a bare tool (RY40HPHG01B) and $249.00 as a kit with a 2Ah battery and charger (RY40HPHG01K). SlashGear reported it in October as coming soon with no price, and Ryobi’s pages now show an Add to Cart button without saying anything about stock.

What are the specs?

Ryobi lists a brushless 40V HP motor, a 26” bar, a 1.25” cut capacity, dual-action hardened steel blades, a rotating handle and anti-jam technology. SlashGear writes the capacity as 1 1/4-inch and puts the runtime at over 45 minutes with the 2Ah battery and up to 168 minutes with a 6.0 Ah battery.

Ryobi also lists a HEDGESWEEP debris remover. Hunker describes it as a clamp-on piece for clearing cuttings and calls it a good extra purchase, while Ryobi’s page counts it among the features, so check whether it is in the box before you order.

How does it compare with Ryobi’s other 26-inch 40V trimmers?

Pro Tool Reviews covers the earlier RY40640, a 26-inch 40V HP model with a 1 in. cut capacity, a weight of 8.9 lbs and up to 3,200 strokes per minute. The new RY40HPHG01 lists a bigger 1.25” capacity, which is the clearest spec difference on paper.

Ryobi’s pages for the new model do not give a weight or a stroke rate, so a direct comparison is not possible yet. Ryobi calls the new trimmer the industry’s most powerful, with a footnote saying the claim rests on cc rating against cordless and gas hedge trimmers. That is the maker’s comparison, not an independent test.

Is it for sale in Canada?

The sources reviewed do not say. Ryobi’s listings show $189.00 and $249.00 without naming a country or currency, and neither SlashGear nor Hunker gives a Canadian price or retailer. Check ryobitools.ca and Home Depot Canada for the model numbers before planning a purchase. In much of Canada the hedge season is over, so there is time to wait for a Canadian listing.

Who it suits

  • Homeowners with long or thick hedges: the 26” bar and 1.25” capacity cover a lot of hedge per pass. Over 45 minutes on a 2Ah battery is the kit’s stated runtime, so large properties may want a second battery.
  • Anyone already on Ryobi 40V: the $189.00 bare tool avoids paying for a battery and charger you own. Confirm your batteries are 40V.
  • Landscaping crews: runtime and weight matter most, and neither the weight nor the stroke rate is published for this model. Wait for measured figures from a trade outlet.
  • People switching from gas: Ryobi’s comparison is based on cc rating, so judge it on runtime and cut quality once reviews appear.

What to do next

Read Ryobi’s pages for the tool only and kit versions to confirm the price and what ships in the box, then look up RY40HPHG01B on ryobitools.ca. Watch for a weight and stroke rate on the product page, since those are the two numbers still missing.
