DEWALT’s 20V MAX XR DCW230B 6 in. random orbital sander lists at $249.00 bare in the US, and the smaller DCW211B 5 in. model at $199.00, according to SlashGear. DEWALT Canada has a product page for the DCW230B, but it shows no price and no stock information.

How much do the DEWALT DCW230B and DCW211B cost?

SlashGear reported US prices of $249.00 for the DCW230B and $199.00 for the DCW211B, both tool only, with no battery or charger. ToolNut, a US retailer, listed the DCW230B on sale at $229.00 against a regular price of $249.00, and the DCW211B at $199.00.

Model Pad size US price, tool only
DCW230B 6 in. $249.00 (ToolNut sale: $229.00)
DCW211B 5 in. $199.00

None of the sources we read gives a Canadian price, and DEWALT’s Aug. 11 press release does not mention Canada. Check dewalt.ca and Canadian retailers before you plan a purchase.

What is different between the 6 in. and 5 in. sanders?

The 6 in. DCW230B is the bigger sander for large wood surfaces, and the 5 in. DCW211B is the one DEWALT pitches for small surfaces and tight spaces.

  • DCW230B: 6,000 to 10,000 OPM (no load) with 5 variable speeds, 4.78 lbs according to ToolNut, and up to 200 sq ft per charge with a DCB2108 battery sold separately, measured on pine with 80 grit at high speed.
  • DCW211B: 8,000 to 12,000 OPM (no load), a 2.6 mm orbit, 3.86 lbs according to ToolNut, and up to 50 sq. ft. per charge with a DCB205 battery sold separately.

Both use an AirLock dust port that collects up to 95% of dust with a compatible DEWALT dust extractor, which is sold separately. Both also have wireless tool control that starts a connected vacuum, and both are ready for DEWALT’s Tool Connect chip, also sold separately.

One discrepancy: DEWALT’s US page for the DCW230B lists 6,000 to 10,000 OPM in the overview but 8,000 to 12,000 OPM in the features list. DEWALT Canada and ToolNut both give 6,000 to 10,000, which is the figure used here. DEWALT’s claims of fastest material removal and lowest vibration come from its own footnoted comparisons with competitors, not from independent tests.

Is there a new nailer too?

The DCN220B 16GA straight finish nailer is the other new 20V MAX XR tool in the same announcement, with an MSRP of $399.00 bare according to SlashGear and Power Tool Insider. DEWALT calls it its most compact 16GA straight finish nailer.

It drives up to five nails per second, holds 110 nails, works in spaces as narrow as 3.1 in. and drives nails up to 2.5 in. long. SlashGear listed it at Acme Tools and ToolUp. The 18GA brad nailer from the same family is $349.00 bare or $419.00 as the DCN210E1 kit.

Who it suits

  • Professional finish carpenter or cabinet installer: the DCN220B’s 3.1 in. width and the sanders’ link to a dust extractor suit trim and cabinet work. Budget for an extractor, batteries and a charger on top of the bare tool prices.
  • Serious DIYer already on 20V MAX: both sanders run on batteries you may own. DEWALT’s runtime figures were measured with a DCB205 (5 in.) and a DCB2108 (6 in.), so smaller packs will cover less area per charge.
  • First time buyer: the prices above are for the tool only. The DCW230B comes with one 14-hole 80 grit sheet and a dust bag, so add a battery, a charger and more sandpaper.
  • Homeowner on a budget: the sources list no kit price with a battery for either sander, so the $199.00 DCW211B is the lower entry point, and sale prices such as ToolNut’s $229.00 can change.
  • Canadian buyer: dewalt.ca lists the DCW230B but shows no price or stock, so wait for a Canadian price before comparing it with US figures.

Next step: open the DCW230B page on dewalt.ca and check the price and stock at Canadian retailers. The sources do not say when Canadian stock arrives.
