Milwaukee PACKOUT, DEWALT TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0 and Klein MODbox are the three modular storage systems most often compared by tradespeople, and each sells a single compartment rolling box at the heart of its line. This guide sets their published specs side by side using the Klein and DEWALT product pages, the Milwaukee listing on Home Depot Canada and a ToolGuyd overview of the modular storage market. Torque Digest did not test these boxes, and none of the figures below come from our own measurements.

What the three sources agree on

All three boxes carry the same load rating and the same weather rating. Klein lists 250 lb for the MODbox Rolling Toolbox 54100MBX. DEWALT lists 250 lbs for the 24-inch TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0 Rolling Toolbox DWST08450. The Home Depot Canada listing for the Milwaukee PACKOUT 22 in Rolling Modular Tool Box 48-22-8427 also gives 250 lbs. Each page also describes an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance.

Where the specs differ

  • Wheels: Klein lists 10-inch solid rubber wheels. Milwaukee’s listing shows 9” all-terrain wheels, and DEWALT lists 8-inch all-terrain wheels.
  • Size: Klein gives 22 in L x 20.8 in W x 27 in H and 30.4 lb. The Milwaukee listing gives 22 in W x 18 in D x 19.5 in H and 24 lbs with a collapsible handle. DEWALT’s page names a 24-inch (610 mm) box but gives no overall dimensions or weight.
  • Storage volume: Klein lists 3,577 cu in and the Milwaukee listing lists 3,450 cu. in. DEWALT gives no volume.
  • Handles and latches: DEWALT highlights a wide telescoping handle, a detachable back handle for loading onto a pickup truck, and patented auto-connect side latches. Klein lists a removable telescoping metal handle and a steel-reinforced lock point for padlocks or cable locks.
  • Warranty: DEWALT lists a limited lifetime warranty. The Klein and Milwaukee pages we read do not state warranty terms.

How the systems are growing

ToolGuyd’s February overview calls Milwaukee Packout the largest and most actively expanding line, with multiple launches announced for 2026. It says the DEWALT core system lacks many of the expansion options of its rivals. It describes the Klein ModBox Gen2 rework as notable, with steady additions, while noting that pending patent complaints could affect future changes. ToolGuyd gives no prices or dimensions for any of these systems and does not mention Canada.

Prices and Canadian buying

None of the manufacturer pages we read list a price. Check current Canadian prices at Home Depot Canada, Canadian Tire or Amazon.ca before choosing, because the sources give no CAD figures.

Who it suits

  • Professional tradesperson: the shared 250 lb rating means the choice comes down to wheel size and carrying ergonomics. Klein’s larger 10-inch wheels may suit rough ground, but its 30.4 lb empty weight is higher than the Milwaukee listing’s 24 lbs.
  • Someone already on a system: stay with your brand. The expansion options of an existing PACKOUT, TOUGHSYSTEM or MODbox collection matter more than small spec gaps.
  • Truck loaders: DEWALT’s detachable back handle is aimed at loading a pickup, while Klein advises two people to lift when a loaded box is over 50 lb.
  • First time buyer: pick the system sold near you, since replacement parts and add on boxes are easier to find locally.
  • Fleet or crew buyer: standardize on one system and check each maker’s warranty terms, because only DEWALT states them on the page we read.
